STP: 802.1d and PVST

  • To avoid bridging loops in L2 network
    with redundant paths.
  • Defined in IEEE 802.1d standard.
  • Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU)s’ are
    used to communicate among all switches(bridges).
